Continuing my habit of sharing things that I think will be appreciated, Liz and I watched The Vast of Night via Amazon Prime as a Friday evening movie. And we both really enjoyed it.
It’s a debut for director Andrew Patterson and it lovingly recreates the Twilight Zone and 1950s-era B movies. But it’s a straight sci-fi film, not a parody or bland homage.
A local radio DJ and young switchboard operator end up investigating a mysterious audio frequency. And I won’t say more than that, but the cinematography and period details work brilliantly to capture the time and place in small town New Mexico.
If you like vintage science fiction (or even more modern examples), you’ll definitely enjoy it. But it should be enjoyable even if you’re not massively into the genre…
